Pre-show notes are detailed descriptions of an upcoming event’s visual elements. This crucial information provides listeners with a visual context for the event and enhances their understanding and enjoyment of it. They are also an opportunity to describe and name those elements a Describer won’t have time to say during the event.
Pre-show notes are typically voiced, and run 10-15 minutes long, depending on their complexity. They may also be rendered in Large Print and/or Braille, and/or recorded and made available digitally.
Pre-show notes for theatrical events include descriptions of the venue, stage, characters and actors, costumes, sets and set changes, props, special effects, synopses, and selected playbill content.
Pre-show notes for non-theatrical events include descriptions of the venue, stage or platform, the participants, and any other information available to the general audience about the event.
Intermission notes may also be provided. These are often fairly brief and are used to highlight any significant changes or to present any additional information, such as upcoming speakers or plot synopses.
We prepare and deliver pre-show notes at all live events.
