On a flight to Minneapolis in 2012, I found myself seated next to a woman holding a white cane in her lap. In the course of our conversation, she told me about Audio Description and how it helped her to engage, understand, and participate more fully in her life. I flashed back to describing baseball games for my low-vision father and what a difference that made for him. I knew right then and there that this was my calling.
That Angel encounter changed the course of my life. From the moment I stepped off that plane, I immersed myself in learning all I could about Audio Description and the people in the blind and low-vision community it serves. I learned of their needs and desires, joined and participated in local cultural accessibility organizations, and championed solutions to fill accessibility gaps and improve accessibility for people of all abilities.
