Grand Teton National Park

We were awarded the contract to write Audio Description narratives for 60 internal exhibits at Colter Bay and 60 outdoor sites at Jenny Lake within Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.

The tour is available in the National Park Service’s NPS app which contains tools to explore more than 400 national parks nationwide, complete with interactive maps, tours of park places, on-the-ground accessibility information, and much more to plan your national park adventures before and during your trip.

Here are a few samples of the narratives we wrote for this project:

Cascade Canyon

Cascade Canyon is a great option for a day hike. After a steep climb from Inspiration Point, the trail levels off and leads you into the mountains on the floor of a broad, glacially carved canyon. Depending on the season, you’ll encounter rushing cascades or trickling streams flowing down both sides of the canyon. The trail passes through several willow-covered meadows, which are common habitat for moose.

Jenny Lake with Cascade Canyon

Jenny Lake

Stands of pine trees line the sides of the road leading down to the launch, which crosses over the Jenny Lake loop trail just before the water’s edge. Note a line of boulders at your right as you approach the lake. The pristine waters of the lake act as a mirror, reflecting the surrounding peaks and evergreen forests that reach all the way down to the rocky shoreline. The crystal-clear water also makes it easy to see the rocky lakebed.

View of Jenny Lake from Inspiration Point

Inspiration Point

The trail to Inspiration Point is the most strenuous in the park, with roughly 400 feet (120 m) of elevation gain. Be advised that along the way you will encounter a section of trail that hangs on a very steep ledge with no hand- or guardrails. The rocks can be slippery in this section, and the trail narrows as you climb, becoming progressively steeper, with many rocks and uneven surfaces. As you stand at this viewpoint, imagine the massive glacier that flowed out of Cascade Canyon. When the glacier receded, it deposited the moraines (low ridges) that dam Jenny Lake.
